GIFTED PROGRAM

The purpose of identification in the Gifted Program is to find students whose potential and/or performance is so extraordinary that they require differentiation in their instructional program.

A process of identifying gifted students has been established by referral in one of four ways through:

·  Screening with Terra Nova data, or another nationally normed achievement test.

·  Nominations from teachers, counselors or other school staff, parents, or students themselves.

·  Transfer records which indicate gifted identification from another DoDEA school.

·  Students whose records from schools outside of DoDEA indicate eligibility are recommended for immediate review.

Once a student is referred, the Gifted Review Committee is responsible for determining student eligibility, based upon a review of the student’s assessment profile. Assessment of each referred student is completed with parent or guardian permission. The committee meets quarterly, and as needed, with new student referrals.
