E-MAIL: vickie_blankenship@eu.odedodea.edu
COURSE DESCRIPTION: Only open to American students with IEP.
This
course explores learning strategies and helps students become more independent
learners while increasing their personal management skills, both in school and
in other contexts.
COURSE GOALS/OBJECTIVES/STANDARDS:
Students will learn how to develop
and apply a range of strategies to improve their learning and achievement,
particularly their literacy, numeracy, communication, social and planning
skills. This course will increase
students’ confidence, motivation and ability to learn.
SCOPE & SEQUENCE: The scope and sequence of the course varies with the student and their individual education plan.
CONTINUOUS SCHOOL PROGRESS: AFNORTH
International Middle/High School’s CSP (Continuous School Progress) goal is, “All students will improve their written communication skills
across the curriculum.” The 6 + 1 trait is the model selected to improve
school-wide writing in all subject areas. The 6+1 Trait writing framework is a
powerful way to learn and use a common language to refer to characteristics of
writing as well as establish a common vision of what “strong” writing looks
like. Teachers and students will use the 6+1 Trait model to identify areas of
strength and weakness as they continue to strive towards continued writing
improvement. Success of all students requires that the 6 + 1 Trait become a
consistent and integral component of each course taught at AFNORTH
International Middle/High School.
The Learning Strategies class will implement and reinforce
the 6 Traits + 1 strategies for developing written language skills using the
regular general education curriculum as appropriate.
COURSE GRADING/ASSESSMENT: Course grade and assessment is directly linked to IEP goals and
objectives.
