Financing a college education can be an intimidating task. Fortunately, many scholarship opportunities are available to military families. The Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society (NMCRS) offers scholarships. So does the Navy League; the Navy Wives Club of America and the Fleet Reserve Association (FRA). There are many more.

There are a number of scholarship opportunities available, if you take the time to look. Spouses clubs, the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, religious institutions, all provide scholarships to eligible students. Criteria for awards are usually based on need and/or merit.

Scholarships come in different sizes and shapes, but applying is early is important. A good starting point is with the clubs and organizations on base. You should also talk with the counselors at local high schools and/or the colleges you are applying to. Listing all the websites and companies that offer scholarships would be impractical, but we've gathered some here to get you moving.

Statistics indicate that a person with a college degree will earn 40 to 50 % more over time and be less likely to be unemployed. A college education pays for itself in the long run, but without a, complete source of information, figuring out how to fund a college education is ! like sailing the ocean without a compass.
